Dreamland Ruins

Once, there was an amusement park called Nara Dreamland, which was essentially a low-quality imitation of Disneyland in America. After it closed, the site sat in ruins for years, but today it has been cleared into a vacant lot. In modern Japan, buildings constructed during the rapid economic growth period following World War II are being demolished one after another. They are often replaced by houses with Southern European-style designs, which disrupts the architectural harmony of the streets and significantly diminishes the charm of the towns.

To the south of the Dreamland site lies Nara Park, home to World Heritage sites like Todai-ji Temple. When Japan opened its borders in the late 19th century, a movement to eradicate Buddhist culture broke out, leading to the burning of many temples; the resulting cleared land eventually became Nara Park. Despite the omnipresent scent of deer droppings, tourists from all over the world flock to this park. I believe it would be fascinating to turn the Dreamland site into a tourist attraction by releasing deer there and relocating historic buildings to the grounds. After all, even the Nara Prison, with its distinctive radial design, has now been converted into a hotel for tourists.

High above, a DJI drone flies on, devoid of emotion, looking down upon both the ancient temples that still stand and the site of the modern amusement park that no longer exists.
