Whenever I think of Hokkaido, I am reminded of my high school field trip—or rather, how I couldn’t go because of a club match. It wasn’t until I finished my university entrance exams that I finally made the trip. I took the Joban and Tohoku Main Lines from Ueno, transferring between trains through the snowy landscape, and eventually crossed over to Hakodate for the first time via the Seikan Ferry. A significant amount of time has passed since then, and while the scenery of Sapporo has transformed completely, the areas near Otaru still offer deeply rewarding subjects for photography.

For this shoot, I used a DJI Action 2 and converted the footage into VR180 using “180Kino” app I uploaded the video at 7K resolution (with 8K image quality) after cropping out the areas outside the field of view. Since the Action 2 offers some of the highest image quality available for an action camera, it remains perfectly viable for VR180 use even now, four years after its release.
