It has been five years since the release of the Quest 2, the device that made VR headsets truly practical for the average user. Not only does it allow you to watch movies on an overwhelmingly large screen, but it also significantly lowered the barrier for viewing 3D videos and still images, which were previously difficult to experience. Consequently, the smartphone—with its small screen and lack of stereoscopic capabilities—has suddenly become an obsolete gadget.

Because of this shift, the entire lifecycle of 3D VR photography, from creation to viewing, can now be completed entirely at an individual level. As even higher-resolution VR headsets are released in the future, it is certain that the resolution of VR photos and videos will become indistinguishable from seeing things in real life. The challenge moving forward lies in how we choose to utilize this technology.
